The reciprocal links debate is still going. What is the best? Reciprocal links or one way links?

The answer is subtile and need some explanations.

I believe that quality one way link will definitely gives you the advantage. However I also think reciprocal links from very high Google Page Rank website, which have high backlinks and relevant content to your website will also give the same value.

But if you are just starting a new website, I have learned that one way links are always better. Google wants links to occur in a natural way and one way links would imply that a website linked to yours because it liked your quality contents. So one way link building is the logical way to go if you are just starting a new website and wish to build your link popularity.

If I can get one way link on trusted site it would be great but if I had to link back with them I had to check my criteria. The site content must be related to my website and have decent link popularity

on google. It must also contain at least one top 20 ranking for one of my targeted keywords.

The key to success in my opinion regarding links is lots of relevant links. Any relevant links keep helping your ranking, the higher the relevant links, the closer you are to getting a top 10 ranking for your related keywords. The question is all about link quality. As long as you concentrate on quality links, link exchange will rewards you. Make sure to avoid link farms.

It's far more effective to have 50 good inbound links from popular pages than 500 links from a

link farm stuffed with no relevant and duplicates content.

Link popularity is a big factor in search engine rankings. The tendency of blog authors is to promote only the main url of their blog unaware that a large amount of traffic also comes from inner pages or deep links as it is popularly called. How to determine which pages needs to be promoted so that you will increase your blog or website traffic will be discussed later but first we'll touch on the topic about what keywords are searched in the main url of your blog.

Keywords in the home page

Your home page is limited only to a few blog posts. Blogger defaults to 7 pages but you can assign any number from 1 to 99. Individual pages are created for each blog posts if you selected yes to 'enabled post pages' in the settings/archiving page of your dashboard. Therefore the keyword relevance in your home page may vary but not on your individual pages or deep link. Blogger assigns a unique url for individual pages.

For example if your home page contains 7 posts, then the 7th post will no longer be in your home page if you create another post. Keyword density which is a factor in search engine rankings will not be the same as the one before you created a new post.

Promoting your deep links is a good option to increase your overall page rank. Page rank for your deep links can be passed to your home page. Among the many deep links which you can see from your archive, which of them should take priority in promoting?

How to determine which pages to promote first

We'll use Google as the search engine and you'll need either a Google Websmasters tool to do this or a statistical counter like StatCounter. If you don't have a Google Webmasters tool account, open one now.

Using Google Webmasters Tools

In your dashboard click on the name of your blog. A page will open that will have several menu items on the left. Click on 'Statistics' then on the 'Top search queries' on the submenu. You will be presented with two data groups: Top search queries and Top clicked queries. Both have the same column headings.

The '%' column is the percentage of a search term from the total number of search terms that your website or blog received for a specified time period, that's 1 week.

The 'Query' column is the keyword that searchers typed on the search box.

The 'Position' column is where your page is located in the search result. Google displays 10 results for each page. If your position of your page is 11, then that page is the first item of the second page of the search result.

If your page is listed in the first 10 results, then it must be having good traffic. If the position is more than 10, then its a candidate for further promotion so that it will go to the top 10.

To know what the url of the page the search query is pointing to, right click on the search query and select 'open in new tab' if you are using Firefox. The Google search results page will open, find your page basing on the 'Position' column. Once you find it, get it's link location by right clicking and selecting 'copy link location' then paste it in notepad. The further your page from the top 10, the more promotion it needs to reach the top 10.

That's it, you now know what deep link pages that needs promoting. Promote it using the searched term as the anchor text. Write articles, post blog comments, participate in forums using that url. Push it forward and you'll increase your website or blog traffic.

Once again always be building a list as this enables you to build a relationship with your visitors and from this your traffic will convert to more sales.

Ezine Advertising

This can prove to be very effective depending upon the ezine you advertise in. Research is critical so as to ensure that the ezine has targeted traffic relevant to your offer and additionally has a large number of readers who trust and respect the ezine that they read. Relevancy is critical here in order to convert traffic to sales.

Search Engine Optimization

This strategy is a more a long term approach however is it effective. You may see a common pattern evolve relative to all these tips and that is relevancy. Relevancy improves conversion. We don't care about traffic we care about conversions. The good thing with search engine optimization is that you web pages have to be relevant in order to get on the first page of the search results. Search engine traffic is proven to convert at a higher rate than advertised traffic. Being on the first page of Google builds credibility in your visitors mind and credibility converts to sales.

Forums

Forums are a wonderful place to research a market and find keywords to advertise with. Beyond that on the forums people discuss various challenges they have relative to any given subject. Once again this kind of traffic converts.

Link Sharing

Sharing your links with other webmasters who have similar content to yours. I know I sound like a parrot but it will benefit all parties concerned if your links are placed on relevant websites with relevant information. You do not see vegetarian foods been advertised in a butchers shop.

Online Video

This is fast becoming popular. It is said these days that video is being searched online over sixty percent of the time. All you need to do is make a quick video that can either have dramatic or humorous content then display a link to your website where they can learn more.

Web 2.0

Sounds like something out of Star Trek but basically these are sites that provide a social and interactive environment. Set up a page about your self and your interests then have a link back to your site where you go into detail relevant to your described interests. Once again aim to build a list form this traffic that way you will generate more sales.

Classified Advertising

Once again, this can be tricky but I have a little tip for you that will make all the difference. Set up a US Free Ads account then create a classified add that has 200 hundred characters or more that targets your desired keyword. Look for keywords relevant to your offer that have low competition.

Then put the keyword in the title and sprinkle it throughout the copy. The beauty of this is that not only will you get page views from your add but you will also find your page will get picked up by Google providing you with free search engine traffic.

Press Release

If you have just build a new site that offers a product or service, get a press release written about it then distribute the press release. Make sure it has your desired keyword in the title and once again spread throughout the copy. The search engines will then pick this up but not only that it will also provide relevant links back to your site from various different news outlets online.
